Rainier Ensemble Auditions

RYC Application Form

Auditions will be held early next fall by appointment.

BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

New members who have not advanced after successful participation in RYC’s Concert Choir will be accepted as probationary members for one month, at which time, permanent membership status may be established.

Eligibility:
Young women and men with changed voices in grades 9 - college with music reading skills and the ability to
sing in tune and independently. Younger boys with changed voices who have exceptional skills and focus may
qualify for this group.

Audition procedure:

-Applicants will take a short, written assessment to determine music theory mastery.
-Individuals will:
-Sing two major scales ascending and descending in solfege as indicated in the Audition Materials.
-Sing “America the Beautiful” first stanza.
-Be assessed for basic sight-singing skills.
-Successful applicants will be awarded one month’s probationary membership before permanent membership.

Audition fee:
A non-refundable audition fee of $10 MUST BE PAID when reserving the audition.

Acceptance notification:
Parents will be notified by email of acceptance within a couple of days. If you do not receive
notification within five work days, please call 206-835-8888.

RYC Registration
Parents of singers accepted into membership must pay the non-refundable $25 Registration Fee to reserve a spot
for fall enrollment. A required parent informational meeting will be held in September where all or part of the
tuition for the season must be paid. See payment options. The meeting will be at our rehearsal site, Cedar
Heights Middle School’s choir room, 19640 SE 272nd, Covington, WA 98042, with the date and time to be
determined.

Failure to register and pay on or before the first rehearsal may forfeit membership.

Junior Choir and Concert Choir Auditions

RYC Application Form

Auditions will be held December 18, 2008 by appointment to begin singing in January.

BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

Eligibility:
Boys and girls entering 3rd - 9th grades in the fall of 2008 with boys’ voices unchanged.
Exceptions may be made for younger children dependent upon skills and focus.

Choir Placement:
Placement in the appropriate choir is determined by audition, age, ability to focus, and choral or other musical
experience. Concert Choir membership is contingent upon successful participation and advancement from Junior
Choir, with a few exceptions for those too old for Junior Choir and/or who already possess music reading and
performance skills and the ability to harmonize and focus in rehearsals. See choir descriptions

Audition procedure:
Singers should arrive with their voices warmed up, i.e., having sung some before arriving. Students will be asked
to sing “America the Beautiful”, an E major scale, and echo rhythmic and melodic patterns. A parent is requested
to accompany the child to fill out forms and insure the audition fee is paid. Parents ARE NOT allowed to sit in on
the actual audition, which should take 5 to 10 minutes.

Rainier Kids Registration Information

No audition necessary. Mail your registration form, $75 tuition and $10 performance shirt fee (no new shirt required for those who opt to return for later quarters this year) before the first rehearsal of the trimester to the address shown on the form, or call (206)835-8888 or email executivedirector@rainierchorale.org to reserve a spot and bring the completed forms and fees to the first rehearsal. Payment by credit card is possible on the Payments page, or make checks payable to RYC and mail them with your registration form.
